  • Roper Cowboy Boots For Men

    Roper Cowboy Boots For Men

Recently, I was searching for a pair of cowboy boots online, I came across a beautiful pair of roper cowboy boots for men that really caught my eye. I’ve been wanting a new pair of ropers for awhile so I’m really glad I found these beauties.  After browsing around the site, I stumbled on many pairs that I wouldn’t mind having.

If you don’t have a pair of roper cowboy boots or really don’t know what they are, don’t worry, I’m here to help.  The main difference between a pair of ropers and a pair of traditional cowboy boots is the shaft of the boot. The shaft on the roper is much shorter and ends before it reaches the middle of the calf.  It also has it’s own “roper” heel shaped to the sole of the boot and really never exceeds an inch high. Roper cowboy boots usually have a rounded toe, but with the ever changing look of western boots, you can find square toed ropers as well.

These Ropers just last and last and look great!

Browsing through Pintoranch searching for the perfect pair of ropers, I came across a really nice pair of boots that really caught my eye and I just had to get them.

-Check out our Lucchese boot review!-

The first thing I noticed about these boots was the rich mocha bison leather chord pattern that overlays the pony brown color pull straps. They are roper toe, roper heel with about a 1’ heel height and about a 10″ shaft height; just a beautiful boot all around.

Men’s Roper Cowboy Boots – Choices & More Choices

I didn’t want to purchase the first pair that caught my eye, so I continued looking. The next pair of ropers that caught my attention were the Blackjack Caiman Belly Boots. These boots were rich chocolate brown leather simple cord with caiman belly overlays finished off with a simple stitch pattern towards the top of the shaft.

With A Great Pair Of Ropers Comes Great Responsibility

So then I was stuck to make a decision about which of the two I should buy… So what I decided to do was sleep on it. Usually when I make instantaneous decisions, I usually end up making the wrong decisions… So that’s what I did. I woke up around 8am, started making coffee, took a shower started my day.

While enjoying my coffee, I felt this was the perfect time to decide which boot I’d choose out of the two that I was considering the night before. Did I want the first pair I saw which were the Lucchese’s with the rich mocha bison leather boots or did I want the Caiman Belly with the rich chocolate brown leather with the caiman belly overlay. I was stumped.

Then, after a few minutes, I started thinking of another possibility. I’ve always considered the western rustic look as a nice look for boots, so I started browsing. Scrolling and scrolling trying to find the right pair of boots I decided to search for it directly. So, I searched for the key word itself. “Men’s Western Cowboy Boots” and Pinto Ranch came back up again. So, then I went back onto PintoRanch.com and triple checked to make sure I didn’t miss any of their other boots. AND THEN…. I found them!!

I was in love with these boots, I had to have them! I go and look at the price and they are $1,650. I couldn’t believe it!! Nearly $1700 dollars for a pair of roper cowboy boots….ahhh…but maybe they’re worth it… I mean they are handmade and they are Lucchese.  Knowing this, I know they will last well over 10 years and maybe even 20 and that is with regular wear

When The Pros Outweigh The Cons, It’s An Easy Choice

Thinking in my head endlessly of the pros and cons of the expensive purchase. So the cons are they’re $1,650 dollars which is expensive for a pair of cowboy boots, and the pros, the boots seem really comfortable, they’re one of the most beautiful pair of roper boots I’ve seen, and to top it off… it comes with a 1 year warranty and there’s free shipping.

So, I decided the pros outweighed the cons and I purchased the boots. I couldn’t resist them. As the days started to get closer to the 5th day I started to rethink about things. One of my main concerns was that I wasn’t able to try the boots on before buying them. Typically, I wear an 11.5 but with these I wanted to get a little bigger just in case, so I went with a 12. So, I’m praying they’re the right fit.

A New Pair Of Ropers, Its Like Christmas Morning

Roper Cowboy Boots For Men - Getting a new pair of Men's Roper Cowboy Boots for Christmas!FINALLY, THEY CAME… I was so excited… I opened the box and there they were! There’s nothing like the smell of fresh brand-new leather. I pulled them out of the box, slipped each foot into the boots stood up and I felt like a million bucks! I can’t even begin to explain to you how comfortable these boots are. I’ve never worn a more comfortable boot in my life! I started walking around in them and they were a perfect fit. I think it was a good idea I got 12, they weren’t too loose, weren’t too tight, just a perfect fit.

Although the boots are a little pricey, I would say I’m happy about my purchase and I think I handled the decision process well on determining which pair of boots I should purchase. If I had to choose between the other two before I would have most likely chosen, the Lucchese Men’s Executive Mocha Bison Roper Boots.

For all people debating on where to get boots for men or women, I suggest going to Pintoranch. It can be exciting and stressful determining the boots to order, but If I were to suggest advice I would say don’t rush into picking one, look around at your options, sleep on it if you have to, but patience is a virtue and i’m happy I found my perfect pair of Roper cowboy boots.

  • Handmade Boots vs. Machine Made Boots

Handmade cowboy boots vs machine made boots, its almost a question you don’t even need to ask even if you don’t know the answer. Wait a minute, I know what you were thinking. This isn’t a question. I don’t see a “?” anywhere.  Also take note that a lot of this discussion doesn’t just refer to cowboy boots.  This could also be said for work boots or hiking boots and even shoes.  This article isn’t really about why you should get one over the other. It’s just to inform you on the difference, then hopefully you can make an educated decision on what best “fits” ya!

Handmade Boots vs Machine Made Boots

Time To Go To Boot School

For starters, here is a conversation that I put into type from someone who knows what they are talking about.

Here is a great conversation between Daryl Kesner and Del Lockhart on just exactly what the difference is between handmade cowboy boots and machine made. You can watch the full video with even a better explanation on the home page of We Heart Handmade Boots.

    • I was just looking at the interior of this boot and I noticed it just looks like, this looks like its leather lined. Is that typical of all boots or are there some boots that aren’t leather lined?

Daryl Kesner: There’s actually two types of makes in the boot business. There is what is called a handmade Boot which this would represent, and when we use the term handmade, its not that the boot is completely all handmade even though there’s some handmade portions of making the boot, but it mainly refers to the production of the boot. There will be some properties in that you will have a completely leather out, leather interior, leather heels, leather soles, and it will be pegged. You notice these pegs back here?

    • Yeah, what is that?

Daryl Kesner: That holds the shank into this boot. There is a shank that runs in this boot from here to there and the pegs hold it in place which holds the boot together. Now this here being all leather would signify a handmade boot. A machine made boot if you just step up there and grab me this black boot right here….this is an example of what we call a machine made boot. This boot will differ from the handmade boot where the handmade boot is all leather here and this is a man made product here (the upper). The inside of the handmade boot as we have already established is all leather. The inside of the man made boot will be man made up and drill lined.

    Tony Lama Boots
Luxurious Men’s and Women’s Handmade Boots
    • What is drill lined?

Daryl Kesner: Drill lined is a process that is a lining that is used to whisk away moisture, but is not leather. It’s a very comfortable feeling, but is less expensive than leather.

    • So in the long run, it wouldn’t wear as long as leather, I mean leather is the way to go if you want a durable material for a boot right?

Daryl Kesner: Absolutely, but its a very good product for what its meant to do. The next big difference will come at the bottom. We have already established with the handmade boot that its all leather bottom and a leather stacked heel. The machine made boot will be a man made bottom and a man made heel.

    • Okay, so it depends on where the customer wants to put his money. Maybe in a first time boot wearer would want to go with a machine made boot because he doesn’t want to spend a lot of money wants to test out wearing boots, how much would a boot like this (machine made) cost?

Daryl Kesner: Well to give you some idea, if we were actually sitting here comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges not an exotic boot to a non exotic, if we had an all leather handmade boot sitting here compared to a comparable partially leather machine made cowboy boot here, You would probably be looking at 60-70 dollars here retail.

    • Okay, that’s not a vast difference!

Daryl Kesner: No, its not a vast difference. Depending on how the individuals budget is, that may be a vast difference. And so to answer your previous question, its not necessarily a good idea for a first time boot wearer to wear a less expensive boot. It might make a lot more sense to put him in a better boot, to start him off with a little better fit and a little bit more comfort.

    • I’m glad you put it like that!

Daryl Kesner: So we have to be careful how we do it. The one thing that I want to make quite clear in the two boots is there is a tremendous following for the both of them!

Here Are Some Reasons We Like Handmade Boots Over Machine Made Boots

The 2 big differences between handmade and man made boots. This is what counts

The handmade boot is completely made of leather. The upper is leather. The interior lining is leather. The entire outside is created from leather as are the heels and soles. Leather is king! The man made boot will consist of some leather, but most likely the interior lining will be synthetic and will the large upper part of the boot. The heel and sole will also be synthetic. Not saying man made boots are great boots, but when it comes to comfort and style, the unique construction of handmade cowboy boots puts them in a league of their own.

    Look and Feel

I’m not sure if you have or have not worn a pair of handmade boots, but if you haven’t, there is nothing like it! For one thing, they fit great. It’s like your foot becomes part of the boot or the boot becomes part of your foot. I’m not sure which is the better example, but trust me, its a great thing to experience. Besides being more comfortable than probably every dress shoe in your closet, in can actually make you taller. That’s kind of a big deal. The handmade boot has been designed, engineered, created from leather. The machine made boot has many components that are man made. Leather provides you with more than a great look, it provides you with a great feel.

    Leather Wear

What can I say, leather is the king of survivability! Man made boots tend to be made out of a bunch of man made materials. man made materials just don’t last as long as leather and tend to basically disintegrate or break down much quicker. Not only does leather last longer, it will also conform to your feet without ever losing its shape which will give you a much more comfortable fit. As with any leather boot, there will be a “break-in” period and a handmade boot will give you a more comfortable “break-in” period because of the leather which gives your boots versatility and structure that you can count on.

    Leather Breathes Better

One of the big differences between handmade cowboy boots and man made boots is the upper. That’s the section of the boot that basically runs up your leg. A handmade boots upper is all leather. A machine made boot’s upper will be a man made material. A man made boot’s upper will be lined with a man made liner. A handmade boot will be lined with leather. Guess what? Leather breathes! This will definitely create a better “boot atmosphere” for your feet. This will allow air to circulate better inside your boot and keep your feet from perspiring as much and keep your boot from trapping moisture inside. This will also help to eliminate swelling of your feet. Your friends or significant others will thank you for this later.

    Boot Mainteance

Boot maintenance between handmade boots and man made boots is practically the same. The main difference is that you will be taking care of handmade boots for quite a while longer since leather lasts longer than man made synthetic materials. All you really need is a soft cloth and maybe a mild soapy water solution to clean your boots. some leather cleaner isn’t a bad idea also. With a little maintenance, you can keep your boots looking like new for quite a long time.

    Let’s Call It A Wrap

As Mr. Kesner said in his video on the home page or in the text I scribed out from that video, “The one thing that I want to make quite clear in the two boots is there is a tremendous following for the both of them!”. If you are dealing with a quality boot maker, both types of boots can be of very high quality and last you many years of use.  Men’s boots or women’s boots, this pretty much applies to all.  There is a lot more to a boot then just being handmade or machine made. There is the toe style, heel, etc… when it comes to look and comfort. It also depends on what your doing with the boot? Are you gonna be wearing it on a night out on the town, or will you be wearing it on the job site? It’s your personnel usage that will determine on what type of boot you do get. Hopefully this article helped arm you with information that will make it easier for you to make that decision.

Remember to leave any comments or suggestions you have below. You never know who it may help.

  • Different Styles Of Cowboy Boots

    Different Styles Of Cowboy Boots

So you finally decided to dive into the world of owning your first pair of cowboy boots. Heck, maybe you already have a pair or several pairs of boots, but are looking to change it up a bit. I have put together a basic guide on what to look for, the different names, and some materials you can also find that make up these wonderful pieces of footwear that are considered by many as works of art. Way back in yester year, there wasn’t too much to choose from. Lucky for you, cowboy boots have come a long way. There are many different styles of cowboy boots, colors, and types of material to choose from. I’m sure you will find something to your liking that fits your style.

Toe Shape – Something You Usually Don’t Think About

When it comes to cowboy boots, toe shape is everything. You should consider yourself lucky that you have such a wide range of looks and styles to choose from. Each toe shape says something unique about you as a person. There are four main types of toe shaped boots.

You can read a in depth article we did on cowboy boot toe types here.  Keep in mind, this isn’t every toe shape out there, but it’s a good place to start and will help you to “get to know your cowboy toes a little better”!

Different Styles Of Cowboy Boots - Cowboy Boots styles for toe types

    1. Pointed Toe: Pointed toe cowboy boots is what usually comes to mind when you think of “cowboy boots” or see your favorite cowboy on stage and screen. You may think these boots will be uncomfortable because they would squeeze your toes together, but have no fear, the boot maker adds extra room at the end of the boot to accommodate for this. Whatever size your foot is, you won’t have a problem wearing that same size in pointed toe cowboy boots.
    2. Rounded Toe: Exactly the opposite of pointed toes would be the rounded toe cowboy boots. These boots have a more comfortable and casual look to them and are great for people with wider feet. You may want to look into the Roper” style cowboy boot if you have wider feet or prefer that extra room for your toes. These boots were
made for spending lots of time on your feet or working around the barn.If that’s what your looking for, this boot is the perfect choice!
    3. Square Toe: The square toe boot is a recent addition to the cowboy boot family. They really don’t serve much purpose except for being a fashion statement. You can find square toe boots with either a long pointed toe that end up squaring off at the end, or a bit wider that square off like and resemble a Roper style boot. Pointed toe boots favor the person on horseback where rounded toe favors the person on foot working around the barn. The square toe boot will work for either of these situations.
    4. Broad Squared Toe: This boot is basically a variation of the square toed boot, but with more room. This style of boot was practically nonexistent a couple years ago, but has become super popular as of late because of its stylish looks and being super comfortable. The perfect boot for someone on their feet for long periods of time and for someone that might not be so into the pointed toe look (like me). You can check out some great info on different cowboy boots with square toes right here.

These are the 4 main toe types if you ask me. There are other variations that look similar and it seems like brands like Lucchese, Tony Lama, Rios of Mercedes and others come up with different variants of toe types all the time.  We wrote an article on cowboy boots with different toe types here.

Alligator, Ostrich, And Rattlesnake – Oh My! All Types Of Different Leathers

Well, if you thought picking out what type of toed boot you need was fun, now it gets real interesting! When you would buy a pair of dress shoes, basically your choices are leather or what? That’s pretty much it if they are a pair of quality shoes. Running shoes consist of leather or it’s ugly cousin “pleather”. Not much of a selection and really there isn’t a need for it.

Different Styles Of Cowboy Boots - Seven Pairs of the different styles they come inThis is why I mentioned in the opening paragraph that cowboy boots are sort of a art form. I mean seriously, alligator, ostrich, rattlesnake, eel, are just some of the different leathers you can find in different style cowboy boots. You can practically get boots made out of anything these days. Some of it’s a little freaky if you ask me, but to each his own.  I’m surprised Hannibal Lecter wasn’t wearing a pair in The Silence of the Lambs! Oh yeah, forgot to mention calfskin. This of course would be are most common type of boot and what you would see being worn by your typical cowboy. Here are some other materials that you could easily find though in case you are interested: alligator boots, snake, ostrich, lizard, eel, elephant, stingray, elk, buffalo, and the like. Haven’t you heard, exotic skin cowboy boots are in! I’m not that flashy of a person, so for me, I prefer calfskin leather. But hey, pick something that is you. Either way, they will be sure to be a conversation starter.

If you want to know more about comfort, check out our article on “Are cowboy boots comfortable.  Some really good info on a myth about boots being uncomfortable to wear.

    Men’s & Women’s Ankle Boots – A Different Style Big On Popularity

A Different style of cowboy boots - STALLION MEN'S COGNAC CAIMAN ZORRO BOOTS REVIEW ANGLE VIEWAnkle boots have come on strong into the cowboy world in the past several years. Men love them because they are great with any type of jeans or dress pants. Your basic garden variety pair of cowboy boots were designed to be worn with boot cut type jeans and don’t work as  well with different styles of todays jeans with a slimmer fit.  For that I introduce you to ankle boots.  Same as a traditional cowboy boot, it’s just missing the long shaft of a standard boot. You can see all the different styles of men’s ankle boots here.

When it comes to different style cowboy boots, ankle boots are no secret for the ladies. Tons of different styles, colors and leathers to choose from. Pinto Ranch has a ton of ladies ankle boots here and I’m sure you will find a pair or pairs that you’ll love. Not to mention many are always on sale.

Different Styles Also Include Heel Heights, Heel Types & Shaft Size

Women's Snakeskin Boots - Different Style, Different LookBesides the main differences in styles of cowboy boots that I mentioned above like toe types and leathers, there are also some subtle differences that you might not notice right away.

Heel height is one of these differences and it can have a big impact on a person. For the guys you can usually get anywhere from a 1 inch heel to a 1 3/4 inch heel and several sizes in between. There are also several heel types such as Cowboy heel, Fowler heel, Roper heel, Walking heel and several others for the guys. Some of these styles can have a big impact on a pair of boots.

The ladies have the same options in heels and probably a couple more to add such as a fashion heel, stacked heel and a very popular cowgirl heel. All of these different types of heels can give you a completely different style of boots. Also you can find several different heel heights for ladies boots. Anywhere from 1 inch all the way to 4.5 inches. Definitely a taller heel for the gals.

When it comes to shaft height, there are several different options for both men and women’s boots ( such as city boots) that can give you a different style of boot. As I mentioned earlier, there are you standard garden variety cowboy boots that you are use to seeing that have a 13 inch shaft give or take and your ankle boots that were mentioned above.  Guys also have a boot with a little bit longer shaft but the ladies can go all the way up to 18 inches or so. Basically knee high cowboy boots that give a completely different style look than traditional  cowgirl boots.

Are These Boots A No No? – Wear What You Want

When it comes to cowboy boots, you are gonna hear a lot of negative talk like “those are real cowboy boots” or “cowboy boots aren’t supposed to have laces!”, etc… etc… etc… Hey, it’s the 21st century. Cowboy boots have progressed over the years to fit the ever-changing needs and styles of the wearer. Most people will tell you that your cowboy boot must have a high heel or a Cuban heel with either a pointed toe or roper style toe. Don’t listen to these boot nay Sayers. Cowboy boots have come a long way and the traditional styles aren’t the only thing out there. Maybe you’re already over 6′ tall and don’t want a high-heeled boot. Maybe you like the look of laces. Maybe you don’t want the traditional style boot that goes all the way up to mid calf. Hey, it’s gonna be your pair of boots, get what you like. Your most likely not gonna be out riding the trail, so the traditional pair of cowboy boots really isn’t what you need.

To Sum It Up – The Choice Is Yours, Have Fun With It!
