How To Pick Cowboy Boots For Summer Or Cold Weather

Have you ever thought about if cowboy boots can be too warm to wear in the summer or if there are warmer boots that you can wear in cold weather?

That’s a great question and I want to take the time and talk about the right boot to choose depending on the temperature you are in. What should you look for when wearing cowboy boots for summer conditions or cold weather like say in Wisconsin?

From my experience I think there are six things that make cowboy boots warmer or cooler. First and foremost what determines if a boot is going to be to hot is how it fits. To tight and it’s gonna be hot. Second is the insole and third is the outsole. Fourth is the lining. Cloth will be warmer and leather would obviously be cooler. Fifth would be the type of leather the boot is made from. Ostrich would be cooler since it’s thinner than say a cowboy boot made from suede or a rough out boot. Last but not least is the sixth way your boot may be warmer or cooler is the height of the shaft. A taller shaft definitely helps to keep the heat in then say a shorter shaft.

Let’s talk about all 6 of the ways mentioned below in a little more detail from Jeremiah Craig’s video.

Are Boots Too Warm For Summer by Jeremiah Craig

The Fit Of Your Cowboy Boots

The first thing most people will tell you hear is that if your boot is too tight, it’s gonna be hot. The leather is pressed right up against your foot and there no room for your foot to breathe at all. Yes, I do agree with this, but that is if you are wearing it in the summer when it’s really hot outside. If you’ve spent anytime in cold weather, you know the exact opposite is true. Let’s say it’s 32 degrees outside and you have a tight-fitting cowboy boot on. In my experience your feet are going to be freezing. When it’s cold outside you need layers that fit loosely. I know you don’t want to have loose fitting cowboy boots, so I really don’t recommend them when it’s freezing outside. At least not for an extended period of time.

A tighter boot in the summer is probably going to be really hot. A looser boot in the summer will result in cooler feet because they can breathe. This is why getting the proper fit of a new pair of cowboy boots is so important. As a boot wearer, I want the perfect fit which really isn’t hard to achieve. If I had to pick between too tight or too loose, I would error on the side of too loose. I can always put on another pair of socks lol.

    Leather Insoles Or Removable Insoles

If you are wearing your boots with insoles, it’s just more insulated. Your foot is going to be much warmer if you have more material in the boot. That’s why I like hard leather insoles in the summertime. The less you have in the boot the cooler it’s going to be. The hard leather insole also allows for a lot of airflow throughout your entire foot. In the winter time you may want to get a rubber or foam insole which will keep your feet warmer. Do this unless you live in say Florida or Indonesia (Indonesians love cowboy boots by the way) where it’s pretty warm all year long.

    Leather Outsoles Or Rubber Outsoles

When it comes to outsoles, rubber outsoles are definitely warmer than say leather outsoles. If you mix a pair of boots that have a rubber outsole with an insole, you are definitely gonna have a warm pair of cowboy boots. If you are in a hot climate I would go with a leather insole with a leather outsole. A leather outsole definitely results in a cooler boot and what you want in warmer climates.

    Cloth Lining Vs. Leather Lining

This is definitely a no brainer. The type of lining really matters. A cloth lined boot is going to be warmer. It just holds that heat more. It doesn’t breathe as well as a leather lined boot. I know what you’re thinking. How does leather breathe better than say a cloth or fur lined boot?

Technically cloth or fur would allow air to pass through it easier, but that’s not really what I mean when I say it doesn’t breathe as well. A leather lined boot will be thinner which allows more space between your leg and the leather. This allows for better air flow than a cloth lined boot. Better airflow means a cooler boot in the summer time but a cloth lined boot will also mean a warmer boot in cold weather.

Type Of Leather Your Cowboy Boot Is Made Of

There are leathers that are cooler to wear in warmer climates or during the summertime. Ostrich leather is thing and supple and feels great because it is so lightweight. Full quill and the smooth ostrich boots are perfect for the summer. The ostrich leg is going to be a little different because it’s thicker and a little more rigid. You might not be as cool in an ostrich leg boot (that is leather actually made from the leg of the ostrich rather than from the body of the ostrich) as you would be in a full quill or smooth ostrich cowboy boot (like these ostrich boots for women).

I also like just a regular cowhide or bull hide boot as long as you also have a leather outsole and leather insole. A boot that you don’t want to wear during the summertime, but would be great in cold weather would be a rough out or suede cowboy boot. They are usually much warmer which would be great for the late fall or winter in cooler regions.

Short Boots Vs. Tall Boots Make A Difference

The height of a boot is also another key factor when it comes to how a pair of boots can effect either the heat it holds in or the heat it lets out. In the video above Jeremiah has a boot with a 16-inch shaft. It’s an awesome boot and does run very warm. This boot just keeps all the heat inside because it’s so tall. Also, when it comes to your boot shaft, a deeper scallop (kind of a slit or opening at the top of the shaft on both the front and the back) will result in better airflow and acts as a vent. This scallop will help to keep your feet cool and obviously would be better in warmer climates. No scallop would obviously help to keep the heat in and would be better in cooler climates.

Let’s Break It Down On The Coolest & Warmest Cowboy Boots

This actually sounds like a lot of information, but most of it is common sense. Let’s put all of this information together and break it down on exactly what you need depending on if your are in a hot or cold climate.

If you are in a hot climate, from my experience you want an all leather boot. I’m always going to say that a traditionally made cowboy boot is going to be the coolest and you are going to be able to wear it all year around. You want a proper fit, a leather insole and leather outsole. A leather lined boot made out of say full quill or smooth ostrich and even cowhide will work. You also may want a short shaft or if it is a bit tall, a shaft with a deep scallop. All of this combined is going to make for the perfect pair of cowboy boots to wear in the summer or hot climate. If you are say in Florida or Texas (warm weather Texas) that’s stays warm all the time, this boot will be great year round.

If you are in a location that may get pretty cold in the winter, you want to do the exact opposite. You still want a proper fitting boot, but you will want maybe a thicker insole with say a rubber outsole. Also if your boots run a little big another pair of socks will definitely help your feet to stay even warmer. You will also want a cloth or fur lining and a taller shaft. As far as the shaft is concerned, look for a boot that doesn’t have a deep scallop or no scallop at all. This will help keep in the heat.

A couple other tips and advice that may directly or indirectly be useful in wearing a pair of cowboy boots form some of Jeremiah’s followers are as follows:

    – Whatever you do, never wear cowboy boots without socks! Lol

    – Boots too warm for summer? Slap yourself!

    – If your feet get too hot: Wear thin socks, change socks frequently, and rotate through your boots.

    – It’s never too hot for me to wear boots. Cold, snow and ice. That’s a different story!

    – I wear cowboy boots for work since 11 and I live in Florida where it’s humid and it gets how and I have no complaints it’s never too warm to wear boots

  • What Kind Of Pants Go With Cowboy Boots?

What Kind Of Pants Go With Cowboy Boots?

Today I have a fun question for you concerning some clothing and of course cowboy boots. Below is another video posted by Jeremiah Craig on the subject of What kind of pants go with cowboy boots? Hope you enjoy!

Jeremiah will be going through several kinds of pants and deciding which ones go with cowboy boots and which ones don’t go with cowboy boots! His cowboy boot of choice when comparing pant styles will be his black Boulet boots as seen in the video. So stick around and see if your pants make the cut. Hold on to your saddle and let’s get started.

Here is a pair of boots pretty comparable to the pair in the video. A pair of Lucchese Black Kangaroo boots (on sale).

    Khaki Dress Pants – Classic

Alright, so first up are the dress pants khaki style. They are classic and of course two classics have to go together, right? You have classic cowboy boots and classic khaki dress pants. For me, you just can’t go wrong with khakis and some classic cowboy boots. Throw in a cowboy hat and that sounds like a great trifecta to me!

If you take a look at them together, they hug the bottom of the boot really nice and they just go together right! It’s one of the classier pairs of pants that you can wear with cowboy boots. So basically I’m cool any day of the week wearing khaki dress pants with cowboy boots.

Jeremiah Craig – What Kinds of Pants Go With Cowboy Boots

Wearing Cowboy Boots With Skinny Jeans / Pants

All right, so next up we got skinny pants or skinny jeans’. Something Jeremiah normally wouldn’t wear (skinny jeans’) because he just can’t wear them with boots. Not a fan of the way that you see the “V” or the outline of the top of the boot or shaft of the boot with the jeans. This is because they are “skinny” jeans’. Definitely not a fan of that.

Also, I’m not one to tuck my pants into my boots. I just can’t do it because it doesn’t feel right for me as a regular boot wearer to go around like this he says. I definitely 100% agree with that. You wouldn’t catch me dead tucking any pair of jeans’ into my boots! It looks weird, it feels weird. He does say girls can do it and I agree with that, but it’s just something he won’t do and I feel the same way. Another point that he points out is how it feels constrictive and a boot isn’t supposed to feel this constricted against your skin. I guess if I were to wear a pair of skinny jeans and had to wear cowboy boots, I would find a pair with a short shaft. In all honesty, that is the only way I could see that working out. There are some great men’s short cowboy boots out there and they have become insanely popular over the past few years.

In conclusion, I’m not a skinny pants or skinny jeans’ wearer with cowboy boots and I second that. To be truthful, I’m not a skinny jeans’ wearer at all. I wouldn’t wear them with sneakers, so of course you’ll have to make your own decision on this.

    Golf Pants And Cowboy Boots

Next up are golf pants. Some people think golf pants are pretty silly or goofy looking. Yeah, I agree, they can be a little much for my taste. Not something I would do, but Jeremiah seems to love them! Is it just an excuse to wear silly pants? He goes on to say when you wear golf pants, you realize that they are amazing! Golf pants are really light, but also, they are “fricken” ridiculous! You just got to own the ridiculousness he says. They go awesome with boots too.

Don’t tell him that you can’t wear cowboy boots with golf pants because you totally can. It’s ridiculous but it f**king works. You know it doesn’t hog the top of the boot too much. They are a little baggy, but they are comfortable like I said. If you wear golf pants and cowboy boots, you will get attention I promise you!

Lol, I couldn’t agree more. I’m not a big attention hound so I will let you and Jeremiah stick with the golf pants while I stick to cowboy boots and jeans’!

    Wearing Cowboy Boots With Shorts

This is for the guys, but do I even have to say anything for these? I mean cowboy boots and shorts just don’t go together like we talked about with the tight pants and tight or skinny jeans. Now of course, this can work for girls. Actually cowboy boots and shorts look fabulous on girls in my opinion, but it doesn’t work for guys.  Jeremiah goes on to say “at least not for me”, but I’m going to say for all guys lol.

He goes on to say over and over that “this does not work” and that there just aren’t any words for this look. He’s 100% right and if you’re a guy, do the world a favor and do not wear shorts with cowboy boots.

Ladies, I don’t want to think we forgot about you, it just seems like you can wear about anything with cowboy boots. If you haven’t checked it out already, check out our article on dresses and cowboy boots!

    Bootcut Jeans And Cowboy Boots

Finally, the old standbys, the bootcut jeans’! Bootcut jeans’ are made for cowboy boots. This is the reason why these jeans’ exist. They’re tighter up on the leg (thigh area) and then they flare out to make room for the top of this boot. I mean you just cannot go wrong as with the khaki dress pants you cannot go wrong with bootcut jeans’ when you’re wearing cowboy boots! Try a pair on and look how it flares out at the bottom. I just really like the look of that. (I love the look Jason Aldean sports on stage wearing boot cut jeans, a Resistol cowboy hat and of course those boots!).

I love the bootcut jeans’ and you just can’t go wrong with them. I will always do bootcut jeans’ with cowboy boots.

    Jogger Pants With Cowboy Boots

If you’re not familiar with what jogger pants are, they’re basically just sweat pants and khaki pants mixed together. Pretty accurate description I guess. The look anyway. They have an elastic band around the waist and also around the ankles. Because there are elastic bands down around the ankles, you have to tuck them into your cowboy boots. If you try to pull them over the shaft of your boot, it’s not only difficult, it’s just not going to work. It really looks ridiculous. Worse than the skinny jeans’ in my opinion.

It just feels weird and they are too tight in my opinion. Again, they are too tight and pants that are too tight with cowboy boots just doesn’t work for me. I said it earlier, I’m just one not able to tuck in my pants into my boot.

I’m not gong to ever wear jogger pants with cowboy boots. I do love jogger pants and would wear them with just about anything else like sneakers of course or even sandals / flip-flops around the house. I recommend them because they are super comfortable, just now with boots.

The Onesie And The Cowboy Boot

The only reason I’m including this here is because Jeremiah did in his video lol. I don’t own a onesie, I don’t sleep in a onesie, and I really don’t even know where I could get one. Here is Jeremiah’s take on it!

finally, I give you the onesie and the cowboy boot. Now you know the only time you’re going to be wearing this is in the middle of the night (not me) when something wakes you up outside. You think it’s a bear so you get your cowboy boots on, get out of bed, grab your shotgun and run out there like this. (I actually think we’ve seen this a couple times in some old westerns or hillbilly movies lol).

Then you realize it’s just grandma sleepwalking. You know, you put your boots on with your onesie for nothing! You go out in the cold, but at least your not barefoot out in the cold in the snow. You usher grandma back in carefully so as not to wake her from her midnight slumber walk and you go back to bed.

Yeah, that was kind of a crazy little story I guess, but I do have to give it a thumbs up. In that instance and that instance only, I can see wearing a onesie with a pair of cowboy boots.

    Cowboy Boots With A Tuxedo

This is something that he doesn’t mention in his video, but I wanted to talk about. Cowboy boots and a tuxedo is actually a good look if you ask me. I have been to many a weddings where the groom and groomsmen have worn this.

A penguin suit with a nice pair of black cowboy boots like the pair he wears in the video look great together if you ask me. If you have some black dress pants in the closet do me a favor and get them out and try them on with a pair. You won’t be disappointed. It’s not much different than wearing them with a pair of khakis like we talked about above. Give it a try.

My Do’s & Do Nots When It Comes To Pants & Cowboy Boots

Well there you have it. You’ve probably asked yourself many times what kind of pants go with cowboy boots so I hope this helps out. I kind of think you actually knew the answer to most of these, but you never know.

To quickly go over it again, khakis are a yes with boots. Skinny jeans’ and shorts are a big “NO” when wearing any type of cowboy boots in my opinion. Golf pants are a surprising “YES” for boots, but not while you are actually golfing. If you golf, you will know the reason why for this. Bootcut jeans’ are of course a yes and my preferred choice when wearing any brand, style, exotic, you name it cowboy boot. A tuxedo is definitely a yes, but you might want to check with the bride first or significant other lol. Jogger pants get a thumbs up when relaxing around the house or wearing sneakers, but a big “No Way” with a pair of cowboy boots. Last but not least, the onesie gets a “Hell Yeah” but only if you are jumping out of bed to fight a bear or of course rescue grandma.

If you have any other questions or ideas on what or what you shouldn’t wear with cowboy boots, give us a shout out down below in the comment section. I would love to hear it and I hope this has helped you find something to wear with your favorite pair of cowboy boots!

  • Cowboy boots and Foot Health – Are They A Good Fit For You?

Cowboy boots and Foot Health – Are They A Good Fit For You?

If you are anything like me, you’ve wondered at least once in your life (before or during wear) if cowboy boots are detrimental to the health of your feet. Cowboy boots and foot health, what exactly is the story?

Of course, it’s not going to be an easy answer. Cowboy boots can actually be both good and bad for your feet. A lot of this depends on you guessed it, your feet. There has always been a myth that cowboy boots are uncomfortable, don’t fit right, you have to cram your toes in that skinny pointed section of the boot, etc… Lol, it’s pretty funny if you’ve actually worn cowboy boots for a number of years. I’m here to tell you though, cowboy boots are some of the most comfortable pieces of footwear you have ever worn. You need to get the right fit though. That’s the same with anything you wear on your feet from dress shoes, sneakers, hiking boots, work boots, and of course cowboy boots.

Why Are Cowboy Boots Beneficial To Your Feet

Let’s get the obvious benefits out-of-the-way first. The traditional cowboy boot of course doesn’t have laces. They have a tall shaft (most of them) that go up to the mid way point of your shin. They can protect your feet and legs when you may be out in harsh terrain from such things as thorns, brush, rocks, and even venomous snakes. I’m not joking about the snake part. We actually wrote a great article are cowboy boots snake proof that may be of some interest to you.

Cowboy boots are also of course made from one type of leather or another and can protect your feet from mud and water. You might not want to test these out on a $900 pair of Lucchese, but you can take my word for it. Ever heard of “Trench Foot“? Trench foot is caused by prolonged moisture to your foot or feet and was a really big problem in many wars for pretty much every nation in the world. Cowboy boots can protect your feet from this menace. You don’t want your feet went in any condition hot or cold. Frostbite is no fun and having dry feet is a big factor in not getting it. To be truthful, cowboy boots would not be my first choice out hiking or in freezing conditions, but you never know what kind of situation you are gonna find yourself in. I would suggest looking into a really good pair of hiking boots if that’s the case.

Wearing Cowboy Boots Riding A Horse In The Saddle
Wearing cowboy boots while riding can prevent foot injury

Now, if you are gonna do some “cowboy stuff” like ride a horse, well boom, cowboy boots is exactly what you need. One of the reasons they don’t have laces is so your footwear doesn’t get caught up in the saddle. If that happens, your foot and ankle and who knows what else could sustain serious injury.

A common foot problem seen by many podiatrists is insertional Achilles tendon pain to the back of the heel. A recommendation and treatment for this pain is heel lifts which are just inserts that go into your shoe that raise your heel up. Cowboy boots are already made with elevated heels which shortens your Achilles tendon and reduces the strain on it. Because of these built in “heel lifts” you will greatly reduce the pain of insertional Achilles tendon and won’t need heel lifts when wearing them.

Another benefit of cowboy boots when it comes to foot health are their soles. Cowboy boots are designed and constructed unlike a lot of other types of footwear. The rigid sole helps create a stable foundation of the boot which helps support the overall foot. But there is also something bad about the sole and we will talk about that below in the next paragraph.

Why Cowboy Boots Can Be A Pain In The Foot

The sole of the boot that I was just praising for being of solid sturdy construction can also be very bad for your foot. That same sole has zero arch support. If you have arch problems, cowboy boots may not be a “good fit” for you. Arch support is a must when you need to treat structural deformities that can lead to very painful conditions such as plantar fasciitis which if one of the most common causes of heel pain.

Do you remember when I was talking about cowboy boots not having any laces and that was a good thing? Well that may be great while sitting in the saddle, but out walking not so much. The lack of laces in cowboy boots causes heel slippage. Heel slippage is actually something you need to know about when trying on cowboy boots to get the proper fit. Heel slippage is of course your whole foot slipping from front to back of the boot which can lead not only painful irritation but blisters on the back of the heel. If you haven’t worn cowboy boots before and just read what I wrote above, don’t do anything rash. You might immediately assume that you need smaller boots for your feet or heels don’t slip. This is not the case. You need this heel slippage to get a proper fit. If you don’t, this may lead to compression pain and nerve irritation throughout both of your feet. Also, trying to squeeze your toes into a “small toe box” can lead to forefoot compression and pain which is called Morton’s neuroma. According to the Mayo Clinic:

Morton’s neuroma is a painful condition that affects the ball of your foot, most commonly the area between your third and fourth toes. Morton’s neuroma may feel as if you are standing on a pebble in your shoe or on a fold in your sock.

Yeah, you definitely don’t want that!

When trying on a pair of new cowboy boots, make sure you have any custom orthotics or pads, etc… in hand. You want to try them on with these so you get the proper fit. Trying them on without, you may thing you are getting a great fitting boot only to return home and not be able to wear them with these products.

The Best Cowboy Boots For Men & Women With Plantar Fasciitis

I hope you aren’t reading this section in the hopes of me recommending the perfect pair of cowboy boots for your Plantar Fasciitis! If that’s the case you are in for a disappointment. You can go to a bunch of sites and you might see someone saying “This cowboy boot is great for arch support” or “wear this cowboy boot if you have Plantar Fasciitis. Believe me, don’t listen to them. They are just trying to make a quick buck at the expense of your feet.

It’s pretty simple. Plantar Fasciitis means you definitely need arch support in whatever you are wearing.

Support is derived from two basic areas on the shoe. The base, or outsole, of the shoe is the bottom part, where the rubber, (or in this case, leather,) meets the road. The wider a base, the better the shoe is for balance, which is better for overall support. Above the outsole is the mid sole. In an athletic shoe, this is usually made of foam. It’s the bit that atop the base and below your foot. The higher the contour of the mid sole, the more arch support a shoe has.

With that criteria in mind, let’s examine the cowboy boot:

From a base perspective, cowboy boots are usually fairly wide… though they do have a heel which can affect balance. But perhaps the most glaring support issue in cowboy boots is regarding the mid sole: It isn’t there.

Usually, a cowboy boot is made very well. There’s a durable outsole, and quality uppers that protect the foot. But there isn’t usually a mid sole between the sole and the foot.

No mid sole, no real arch support.

I would love to tell you “Hey, this pair of Lucchese or Tony Lama’s are a great pair of boots with built in arch support”, but that’s just not gonna happen. I can say they are both great brands that will last you for years, but you may want to think about getting some inserts for them.

Cowboy Boots Slim Insert For Arch Support

Can you buy insoles for arch support for cowboy boots?

This can be pretty difficult. Because of the design and shape of cowboy boots, these aren’t something you are going to be able to pick up at Walgreens. There are some die hard cowpokes that just have to wear their boots and have resorted into buying custom-built orthotics for their arch support needs. I know what you are thinking, this could get a bit pricey.

With that being said, you might want to check out Orange Light inserts which is a must if you need arch support for cowboy boots. I believe they run $20 a pair and are well worth it. You can find out more info on their site.

Pay Attention To Pre Existing Foot Problems & Selection

There are a couple things you have to consider when buying footwear. Cowboy boots, sneakers, work boots, whatever, you have to do things right. Proper fit is a biggie. Improper fit can lead to a myriad of problems with your feet that you just might not be able to come back from. There isn’t much else to say about the subject, it’s pretty self-explanatory. Once again, if you have never worn cowboy boots, make sure you get the proper fit. It’s a little different getting cowboy boots then a pair of Adidas. Here is a guide on what to look for when trying on your new pair of cowgirl or cowboy boots.

The 2nd most important thing is taking in to consideration any pre-existing conditions you might have. I hate to say this, but depending on your problem, you just may not be able to wear certain type of footwear such as cowboy boots. If you have a condition such as Plantar Fasciitis, you might want to stay away from cowboy boots all together depending on the severity. Wearing them could make it much worse. High heels are one of most common foot issues out there. If you suffer from any issues because of this, look for something with a shorter heel. Luckily these days you have a bunch of options when it comes to cowboy boots and shorter heels.

You know your feet, get to know what you are putting on them and if it’s a good match. You may read on some sites that cowboy boots shouldn’t be worn if you have some preexisting conditions because of their pointed toe boxes. First, not all cowboy boots have long pointed toes anymore. Cowboy boots have changed and evolved over the years and there are many different toe types in the cowboy boot world these days. I’m really starting to love square toed cowboy boots.

A great piece of advice that I read from a podiatrist was “Wear the appropriate footwear for the activity at hand.”. This is true when it comes to the overall health of your feet.

Healthy and Happy Feet with Cowboy Boots

The Health Of Your Feet Is What’s Important

With everything you just learned, remember that your feet are what’s important. Whatever you wear on them, make sure you are wearing them for this reason, not what looks good. That maybe a little harsh, because no matter what issue you may or may not have with your feet, you can always find something pleasing to wear.

For the most part, most people won’t have a problem wearing cowboy boots. As I said, they are super comfortable and really have some great qualities when it comes to foot health. Cowboy boots and foot health won’t be an issue in most cases if you have the proper fit. If you do have some foot issues, ask your doctor. I guarantee he or she will know the answer and most likely has some firsthand knowledge on the issue.

I hope the information in this article has helped you decide if a pair of handmade cowboy boots is the right fit for you!

  • Some Frequently Asked Questions About Cowboy Boots

Some Frequently Asked Questions About Cowboy Boots

I’ve been wanting to write an article that is like a FAQ for cowboy boots. Seems there are new questions about cowboy boots every day, but I decided to take the time and answer some of the most common. Below are some frequently asked questions about cowboy boots that I receive here and there or some questions I had and found the answers to.

There is obviously a lot more questions out there and I tried to stay away from questions like “What are the best cowboy boots?” or “Which cowboy boots should I buy?. Those are questions I can’t answer for you because it comes down to personal preference. With that being said, if you have a specific question about a brand name or certain pair, let me know in the comments below and I’ll get right back with ya.

    Are Cowboy Boots Comfortable?

I’m starting off with one of the most frequently asked questions “Are cowboy boots comfortable?. I get this all the time and it’s definitely a big talking point when talking about buying certain brands.

We have actually written an entire post on this question and you can find out everything you need to know about cowboy boots and comfort right here. We have also written a post about making sure you get the right fit with your cowboy boots and that is something you definitely need to know because it directly affects the comfort of your boots.

Spoiler Alert: If you’ve never worn cowboy boots, I think you are in for a pleasant surprise when it comes to the “comfort” department. One of the biggest reasons I was late to the boot game was because I thought they would be super uncomfortable. Boy was I wrong!

    Can Cowboy Boots Be Resized?

When it comes to resizing a pair of cowboy boots, this is kind of a broad term. You will want to refer to the next 2 paragraphs below this one depending on if you want to stretch them or shrink them.

Tread lightly though. You really want to use caution when using some of these techniques. Especially if you have a really expensive pair of boots.

    Resizng or Stretching Cowboy Boots

    Will Cowboy Boots Stretch?

The answer to that question is definitely “YES”. There are several ways to break in or stretch a pair of cowboy boots. One thing I want to mention is that “breaking in” a pair of boots is a lot different from stretching a pair of boots in my opinion. There is always a little bit of time that it takes to break in a pair of boots. Boots tend to be a little stiff when you first buy them and after you wear them for a bit, they tend to stretch a bit and conform to your feet. So if they are a little stiff, give them a little bit of time before you start to think about stretching them.

Now if you want to actually stretch them, here is a great article that gives you some options. There are some actual tools listed here that can help you to stretch your boots and there are a couple non-traditional ways as well. I really like the freezer bag of water idea and putting them in the freezer. Water expands when being froze and will slowly stretch out your boot. Kind of a neat little science experiment.

*WARNING: Submerging any pair of leather in water comes with risks and could ruin the quality and look of the leather!

Another more common way of stretching your boot is a western cowboy boot stretcher. I think this would be my first choice in attempting to stretch my boots. Well, that or the wearing of 2 pairs of socks. They seem the less intrusive. I think if you are looking to stretch them a lot, the 2 pairs of socks isn’t really gonna help much. That would be something to do if you just needed to stretch them a little bit.

I did say my first choice would be the boot stretcher, but after thinking about it, that may be my second choice. The reason for that is the cost of the boot stretcher. I mean I don’t know if I really want to spend the money for that before I try some other things out. The boot stretcher does have some great results and can increase the size up to a half size increase in as little as 6 hours. If you ask me though, I think I would start off with submerging your boots in water (older pair only made from cowhide). For one, this is a very inexpensive way to stretch your boots. I mean it’s literally free. The second reason is because this is a tried and true way of stretching a pair of leather boots. I actually have done this many times with new combat boots in the military. This method would be a pretty scary with a pair of $900 Lucchese or Stallion boots though. I wouldn’t even attempt it with a newer pair to be honest. I think I would do this with an older or cheaper pair of boots to be quite honest. It’s a judgment call.

    Will Cowboy Boots Shrink?

This is a hard one. I have found some articles that once again want you to submerge your boots in water and then follow a couple steps such as soak a pair of socks and then wear the boots wet with the wet socks. This seems pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I can guarantee you this, your feet will be an absolute mess when you end up taking these off. I’ve actually been golfing and kind of fell into a creek with my golf shoes and socks on. I played another 8 holes and when I took my shoes off at the clubhouse, my feet were a mess! I literally thought they were gonna fall off. I wouldn’t even recommend doing this, but if you want to see step by step instructions, you can see them HERE. In my experience water stretches out leather, it doesn’t make it shrink.

If it’s just a half size or something like that, the obvious method would be to just put on another pair of socks. That is what I would recommend.

The last option is using heat. This is also something I wouldn’t try on an expensive pair of boots and to be quite honest, if I did have to go this route, I would use a professional. In the wrong hands, heat can definitely damage the leather and you are going to get a look you most likely won’t like. I’ve seen people talking about leaving boots by a stove (wood burning) or fireplace to using some kind of torch. The torch method I heard works pretty well, but should be used by a professional. I would contact your nearest cowboy boot retailer and see if this is something they can do to be honest with you.

Will cowboy Boots Get Ruined In The Rain?

Water has been mentioned a couple of times above to either help shrink or stretch boots, but do remember, water is a pair of boots number one enemy. If you are wearing a pair of thousand dollar Stallions, Lucchese, etc… you really don’t want to get them wet. But don’t freak out, it’s not like the leather is going to degrade or break down just like that. Just make sure you use a conditioner or some sort of saddle soap type product to protect the leather. You want to treat your boots before you venture outside and after if you really get them wet. Some common sense maintenance can help your boots last decades. You definitely want to be a little more cautious with your “exotics” such as ostrich, alligator, etc… No need to worry about a little rain here and there though. Animal leathers are pretty hearty and with a little care, they can definitely withstand a little water.

A word of warning though, if you do get caught in a thunderstorm and a big puddle, don’t think about using a hair dryer or something to dry them. Heat can shrink leather boots and you don’t want to compromise that great fit you have going. If they get wet on the inside, try using newspaper to absorb the moisture or them your boots like your cell phone and fill them with rice. It works great on a wet cell phone, it will work just as well on a pair of cowboy boots!

Will Cowboy Boots Protect You From Snakes?

Luckily we wrote a whole article Are Cowboy Boots Snake Proof just because it’s a very common question and pretty interesting to boot! Everytime I’m asked this I laugh a little bit. I don’t know why, but I do.

When it comes right down to it, cowboy boots will definitely help from becoming a casualty of a snake bite. Poisonous snakes use sharp fangs to transfer their poison into it’s victim. Cowboy boots with their tall leather shafts are really good protection against this. Very few snake fangs can penetrate leather. With that being said, it doesn’t mean that some fangs won’t penetrate. It’s also a good idea to be wearing jeans because the denim will provide extra protection. So I wouldn’t exactly use the word “proof” here, but they will definitely help and may or may not prevent the fang from piercing your skin.

Are Cowboy Boots In Style / Fashion?

This question you shouldn’t even be asking because if you think about it, you know the answer. Cowboy boots are more popular now than at any other time in history in my opinion. The “country” look is definitely big and everyone is wearing it in one form or another. Besides the usual suspects (country singers) you can find them being worn by rock musicians, presidents, actors, models and people from every state. They definitely aren’t just for people out west or in the south anymore.

    Cowboy Boots Are In Style

One of the reasons for this are the many styles of boots now being offered to both men and women. The traditional pointed toe has been supplemented with many other toe styles that just didn’t exist years ago. Something else to think about is the exotic leathers used these days. Everything from alligator, ostrich, elk, snake and a whole lot more. These exotics are highly sought after and demand attention. You guessed it, with attention comes popularity.

Of course you will find people wearing cowboy boots around Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia etc… But you will also see them walking down the red carpet in Hollywood, the runways in Paris and New York and everywhere in between. The popularity of cowboy boots is here to stay in my opinion. Looks, comfort and an all around informed consumer are the reason for its growth in popularity. Take it from me, this is something you want to be a part of!

    Can Cowboy Boots Be Resoled?

Can cowboy boots b e resoled? 100% yes! Not only can they be resoled, but I encourage you to do it when needed. This is one of the main reasons why your favorite pair of boots can last for 10, 20 years or longer. Cowboy boots can be expensive depending on the type of leather and the brand you buy. One of the great things to justify this cost is knowing it’s pretty easy to get your boots resoled to greatly extend the life of your boots.

    Can You Resole Cowboy Boots

Say you have a favorite pair of boots that you’ve been wearing for years. The last thing you want to do is have to pitch them because the bottoms are literally wearing out right before your eyes. Hey, it’s an easy fix. Find a cobbler / shoe repairer and get them resoled! The cost will most likely be between $50 – $150. The higher price will most likely be rubber type boots since they soles are stitched to the boot. I’m gonna say it will cost around $75 for your favorite pair of boots to be resoled.

They also do have do it yourself resoling kits. They usually cost about $25. I’ve never done this before and I think I would be a little bit wary. I think with a great pair of boots I would want a professional to do this for me. Also, I get the added benefit of bringing up the word “cobbler” in a conversation with people. It’s just a trade or profession you don’t hear about much of these days.

There are some tall tell signs that will tell you when your cowboy boots are in need of being resoled. If your favorite boots have shown any signs such as a wearing of the edges of the sole. Soft circular spot(s) developing on the bottom of the sole. Or a spongy or weak spot in the center of the sole(s) of your boots, you will definitely want to get those beloved boot fixed by getting them resoled.

  • Where To Get Great Cowboy Boots For Women?

Where To Get Great Cowboy Boots For Women?

I hate having to navigate the endless sales, ads, commercials, etc… for products that are either complete junk or not as good as they claim to be. Cowboy boots are no exception. So I decided to take a few moments and tell you exactly where to get great cowboy boots for women that you will love!

For starters, I’m going to list 2 places that I do most of my western shopping. I’ve bought most of my boots mainly from Pinto Ranch and Hat Country. You may ask, “Why don’t you go directly to the manufacturer?”. Good question. Well I’ve looked at doing that and both of these places charge the same amount for the same pair of boots as the manufacturer. I guess the manufacturer gives them a deal and that is how they make money. Secondly, some of these brands’ make exclusive styles or pairs of boots just for them. Especially Pinto Ranch. They have a ton of boots on their site you just won’t find anywhere else, even on the manufacturers’ website. Last but not least, I love that they have a ton of other products that go great with my boots. Dresses, hats, belts, jewelry and accessories that you just won’t see if you go to Old Gringo’s website or the other brands’ website.

    Women’s Cowboy Boots Clearance

I really don’t believe in saving the best for last, so I’m gonna start right out showing you some great boots that are on sale. Just a couple of examples. Two things that I do want to mention right off the bat. There is a big difference between Hat Country and the boots you get at Pinto Ranch. I’ll explain below.

    Womens CowboyBoots Sale

Pinto Ranch Women’s Wester Wear- The cowgirl boots (and cowboy boots for the guys) are definitely a little more on the “higher end” when it comes to brand names and price. You won’t find a pair of $75 or even a $100 boots here. They carry brand names like Rios Of Mercedes, Tony Lama, Stallion, Lucchese, etc… The lowest cost pair of boots I found here was a pair of Lane women’s Ballyhoo Bootie boots for $262.50. They were on sale from $350. The most expensive pair of boots I saw were almost $1,900. A pair by Old Gringo. As I said, there aren’t any cheap boots here, but the quality is superb! These won’t be a pair of boots where the heel snaps off after a month of wear. I bought my first pair here about 4 years ago and I still wear them quite a bit. Here is a link to all the cowboy boots for women on clearance. They also have cowboy boots for your man so don’t be afraid to wander over there and check those out. Oh, I almost forgot, they have a great selection of belts, handbags, jewelry, etc… You can find a link to all of that right HERE. I’ve bought several pairs of boots and articles of clothing and some jewelry here. Two things that stand out about Pinto Ranch to me is the quality and their customer service. Any problems and you are definitely in good hands. Returns / exchanges are a breeze and won’t cost you anything.

Hat Country – If I were gonna describe Hat Country, it would be Pinto Ranch’s thrifty sister. I don’t want to sound like I’m putting them down, but they just don’t have the brands’ that Pinto does. When it comes to women’s boots, they have several brand names like Dan Post, Dingo, Laredo, etc…, but in my experience these names don’t really compare to the brands’ I named from Pinto Ranch. You are definitely gonna have to play around with navigating around the site when looking for the lowest price boots. You can sort by price, the biggest savings, new boots, most popular, etc… Definitely find some great deals though. I found several pairs under $100 and the most expensive pair was $300 I think. That’s a huge difference compared to Pinto Ranch.

To be completely honest, I haven’t bought that many items from Hat Country. I haven’t had a problem with any of the apparel so I really didn’t get to check out their customer service like I have Pinto Ranch where I needed to return a pair of boots to get the right fit. Both places offer free shipping and a section that shows reviews from customers. If you are looking for clearance items and you do visit Hat Country, check out their special “Clearance Section”. Tons of great deals that will go easy on your wallet.

Popular Brands Of Women’s Cowboy Boots

In case you are new to the cowgirl boot world, I just wanted to give you some general info on my favorite brand names of women’s cowboy boots. I’m not gonna name them all, but this should be a good start. As I said earlier, there is a big difference between the names you will see at Pinto Ranch and the names from Hat Country. I will say for sure that all the brands’ from Pinto Ranch are excellent. The quality is top-notch and whoever you talk to, it usually comes down to personal preference. I’ll start with Pinto Ranch.

    Womens CowboyBoots Brands

Old Gringo Boots – I wanted to start with Old Gringo because for starters, I have 3 or 4 pairs. Also, they have the largest selection of boots at Pinto Ranch with 43 (as I write this article). Old Gringo boots are handcrafted and combine vintage charm with contemporary styling in their take on western cowgirl boots. This is by far one of my favorite brands’. Not just because of the selection they offer, but the quality. Anytime I get a new outfit, I know Old Gringo has a pair of boots that I can count on to compliment it. If you can’t find a pair of Old Gringos, you aren’t looking hard enough.

Stallion Boots For Women – These boots are insane! When you asked “Where do I get great boots for women”, these are it. When I talk about cowboy boots walking down the red carpet in New York or Milan, they are most likely a pair of Stallion boots. That goes for either men or women. They definitely have a hefty price tag, but wow, are they incredible! I don’t know if the word “cute” adequately describes them. Sleek, gorgeous, sexy, you name it, you are living your best life with a pair of these babies. I had to look them up and found they are relatively new in the boot world. They come from a famous designer named Pedro Munoz in 1980 and are known throughout the runways of Paris, Milan and New York as well as among Hollywood stars. These are the boots to be jealous over if you ask me.

There are some other great brands that I just don’t have time to talk about from Pinto Ranch like Lucchese, Rios of Mercedes, Tony Lama, Lane, and a couple others. If you know cowboy boots, you have definitely heard of some of these brands’. Some others might be new. But as I said, if they are from Pinto, they all are of top quality. These are the best of the best when it comes to women’s cowboy boots in my opinion. You can find all of Pinto’s women’s cowboy boots here.

Two pairs that I want to mention from Hat Country are Dan Post boots and Laredo. Both of these brands’ are a really good boot especially for the price. There are 22 pairs of Laredo boots from which you can choose and 14 pairs of Dan Post boots to choose from. With the average price being around $150, these are just a great pair of every day boots or something you won’t mind getting a little dirty. I have a pair of Laredos and I think they are really comfortable and well-made for that price. I don’t think they will last as long as my Old Gringos, but I am pleased with them.

Where Can We Wear Our New Cowboy Boots?

Oh what a great time to be alive! That’s what I think of when someone asks me “Where can I wear my cowboy boots?””. Twenty or Thirty years ago it was most likely the rodeo or “honk tonk” bar. God, I hate the phrase “honky tonk”!

Today is a whole different story! A couple of reasons for this I believe. One of the biggest reasons is because of their popularity. These days, you don’t have to be “country” to wear cowboy boots. I see actresses, musicians, and people that just aren’t country wearing cowgirl boots all the time. Be it’s on the red carpet or magazines, but you know you’ve seen it as well. I guarantee you I can grab a Vogue and find a pair of cowboy boots in one of the articles or advertisements.

Because of their popularity, people are wearing them with not only their favorite pair of jeans, but also dresses, shorts and even leggings. With more options of things to wear comes more places to wear them.

    Cowboy Boot Wedding

Weddings, another place that cowboy boots have become super popular. I can’t even tell you how many weddings I’ve been to in the last 5 years where the bride and groom were wearing cowboy boots. Same goes for the entire wedding party. I think the boots drew more attention than the gown. That’s how iconic cowboy boots have become.

I think you get the idea. Your options are endless and I really can’t think of a place where you “can’t” wear cowboy boots. My only recommendation would be don’t wear them somewhere that you don’t want to attract attention lol. They definitely get you noticed, especially in a room full of people where nobody is wearing a pair. Sometimes that’s a good thing, sometimes it’s not. You make the call.

Women’s Cowboy Boots Don’t Need To Be Tall

What was that, you would like to change the question to “Where can a woman get a great pair of short cowboy boots?”. Well damn, that is a good question!

There’s no question that shorter shaft cowboy boots have become pretty popular over the years. Looking at them I would consider them an ankle boot or high ankle boot with a little bit of country in them. That is what I love about them and gives you such a different look than wearing the traditional women’s cowboy boot.

I found 3 pairs of them made by Old Gringo at Pinto Ranch. They don’t have a large selection to offer and I think they may be because of the brands’ they offer. The big names like Lucchese, Tony Lama, etc… focus more on the traditional styles, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some in the near future. I haven’t bought a pair yet, but I really like the black bonnie’s. Here’s a link to all 3 pairs.

It was a little harder to sort out the shorter boots at Hat Country. They were pretty much “ankle boots”in my opinion and not even really cowgirl boots. There were 1 or 2 decent pairs there, but you are gonna have to look around. If you search you can get mixed up between cowboy boots, fashion boots, etc… I definitely like the layout of Pinto Ranch much better. It just seems easier to find what I’m looking for. Here is a link to the shorter style of boots at Hat Country.

    Are Cowboy Boots In Style?

This is a frequently asked question and I went ahead and threw this section in the article even though I think I’ve answered it above “Where Can We Wear Our New Cowboy Boots?”.

Yes, cowboy boots are definitely in style! Major clothing designers like Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and many others are showcasing their clothing walking down the runway with cowboy boots. You can also see them walking down the red carpet from the likes of Storm Read, Amber Heard, Gigi Hadid, Kesha are all stars you will find sporting the latest look in women’s fashion, the cowboy boot!

Famous designers, stars of stage, screen and your favorite band. These are all people wearing cowboy boots in the last couple of years. If that’s not in style, I just don’t know what is.

    Cowgirl Boots For Girls

You asked where you can get great cowboy boots for women, but don’t forget cowboy boots for the kids! We’ve already said they are in style and you can wear them just about anywhere. You know your sister, daughter, niece, etc… is gonna want a pair of cowboy boots. Luckily you have options.

I’m gonna also just mention that there are some cowboy boots for the boys here. I want to mention that because we all know who’s most likely to be picking these out. Mom, Nanna, Auntie, you get the picture. I have a niece that just had to have a pair of cowgirl boots when she saw mine. I was absolutely in love with the idea! How freaking cute would that be and how jealous could I make her mom (my sister)!

    Womens Cowboy Boots Kids

I grabbed my laptop and since I had boots on my mind I immediately started to go to Pinto Ranch and then my stomach started to get a little queasy. I love her to death, but I’m not buying her a $200 pair of named brand boots. I could literally see her running through the sprinkler with them on. Starting to not like this idea at all. To my relief, they have boots for kids and they don’t have the same price tag as my pair of Old Gringos. They have 2 brand names (Anderson Bean for the boys & Macie Bean for the girls). I’m not 100% sure, but I think it’s the same brand, just different names for boys and girls. This would make sense. As you would expect, there aren’t a ton of different styles, but there is a decent selection. 10 in total and 6 are for the boys and 4 for the girls. Prices ranged from $95 for the least expensive and $155 for the most expensive. You can find all 10 pairs of boots for the kiddos right here.

A little bit different story when it comes to boots for the kids at Hat Country. There isn’t one link for them, they are separated by boys and girls. For the girls, there are 5 different pairs by Dan Post, Laredo, and Blazin. They are definitely cheaper than Pinto where the cheapest pair goes for $50 and the most expensive goes for $72. Between the Pinto and Hat Country, the boots really don’t look the same, so you might have to look at both and make up your own mind. I think the pairs I saw on Pinto’s site look a little cuter and something my nice would like better, but you be the judge.

As for boys boots at Hat Country, there are 8 different pairs and they are run around $50. I really liked the American flag pair by DBL Barrel. I bet that’s their most popular pair. All the boys boots are by DBL Barrel and Blazin.

You Now Know Where They Are

Well, you asked where to get great cowboy boots for women and I hope I answered your question. You should not have a problem finding a size, style, or brand name that you like.

I picked Hat Country and Pinto Ranch because I think they combine everything you might be looking for. If it’s a pair of high end boots that you want to show off with your favorite little black dress or something to kick around in with your boyfriend. I think between the 2 you can find that and everything in between.

Popular brands’ and low prices with a ton of boots on sale. I think you should be able to find what you want. I know I never have a problem finding something cute.

Cowboy boots are definitely in style and have been for a few years not and I really don’t see that trend slowing down anytime soon. You can wear them with just about anything and just about anywhere.

Hat Country and Pinto Ranch are my “2 stop shop” for cowboy boots, and other western goodies that I know you will love. If you have any questions, let me know below in the comments and I will be happy to tell you my thoughts. From the bottom of my heart, I hope I helped you find your new favorite pair of cowboy boots!

  • Men’s Large Size Cowboy Boots – Plenty To Choose From

Men’s Large Size Cowboy Boots – Plenty To Choose From

I wanted to take a moment and talk about a problem some people have when buying boots, shoes, flip-flops, whatever. For the average person, buying a pair of boots really isn’t a problem. For a select group though, buying men’s large size cowboy boots or any type of footwear is a real nightmare.

    Limited Options – Limited Styles

Pinto Ranch Sizes for Mens Large Size Cowboy Boots
    Large Sizes / Brands

Imagine if you wore say a size 9 or 10 cowboy boot. You go into a place that sold boots or you were shopping online for boots and you started to look around at all their options. A bunch of different brand names, different styles of boots, different colors and leathers to choose from. Your biggest problem at this point is actually picking out a pair out of the hundreds of options you have.

Now imagine going in the same shop or visiting the same website and you can only look at large sized cowboy boots because you have a size 14 or 15 foot. If you want to add insult to injury, you need a EE or EW because you have a really wide foot. Well the good thing is you just solved the problem of having to go through hundreds of options. Now you are down to just a handful.

Luckily I have found a couple places online that has a pretty good selection for guys that need larger size cowboy boots. The first is Hat Country. Don’t let the name fool you, they specialize in western boots, western wear, accessories, etc…

Hat Country Boots & More – Men’s large size cowboy boots through size 18. Regular width and wide width (EE & EW) available.

Pinto Ranch Name Brand Cowboy Boots – Also has a select few of super named brand boots that go up to size 14. They also have some wide widths available throughout their selection. These are pretty high quality boots by names like Lucchese, Tony Lama, Stallion, Rios of Mercedes, etc… Their customer service is also spectacular and I wouldn’t be surprised if you need a larger size you could actually call them and make arrangements.

Settling For A Smaller Boot – Not A Good Idea

Hat Country Sizes for Mens Large Size Cowboy Boots
    Large Cowboy Boots

You would think that people (me included) would know this already, but guess what, some don’t. To be truthful, I used to do this a lot when I was a kid. Basically it was just to get out of the shoe store with my mom. I hated trying on anything i.e. jeans, shirts, and of course shoes.

But, I do remember a couple years back I did it again as an adult. I was shopping for a pair of work type looking boots that I could wear out with a pair of jeans. Doc Marten’s or something similar. I normally wear a 12 1/2 to 13 and I like a wide boot. The boot I wanted only came as high as a 12 and there really wasn’t anything else that looked appealing. I somehow talked myself into buying the 12 and went on my way. I think I wore them 3 or 4 times and after that I got rid of them. They were just way to uncomfortable.

Comfort isn’t the only thing you have to worry about when wearing an improperly fitting shoe or boot. Make sure you fit your boot correctly or you may end up with a whole lot of foot problems. Fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, bunions, corns, hammer toes, heel spurs and ingrown toenails are to name a few. If you have had some of these, I know your pain. Some of them sound so inconsequential, but trust me, you don’t want them. Ever heard of a football player having “turf toe” and you kind of laugh about it. Turf toe isn’t a joke and either are the things I mentioned above. You would be amazed how a simple foot injury can have you down-and-out for weeks.

One last thing about your feet that I want to mention. When I was in the Marines and left for Desert Storm, the first and last thing my grandpa (WW2 vet) said to me was “Take care of your feet!”. Do yourself a favor and get a pair of cowboy boots that fit correctly.

Boot Width Just As Important As Length

When getting a larger size cowboy boot or shoe, width is just as important as length. When you are tying on a pair of boots, you have to judge it by what these boots will feel like after wearing them for 7 or 8 hours, not right when you put them on. I’ve tried on boots where the length was perfect, but they were too narrow. I’ve also tried boots on where the width was too wide. Trust me, you don’t want either of those things happening in a pair of boots or shoes for that matter.

The average width for men is “D”. Usually if a pair of boots are marked size 10 or size 12 and there isn’t anything after the number, that is a standard “D” width. If you see size 10 EE, then you know it’s wide.

Having the incorrect width can have just as many problems as having the incorrect length. Once problem some people have is they have one foot slightly bigger than the other. If that is the case, get a size boot that matches to the bigger foot in both length and width. Your feet will thank you later.

You Know The Drill, But You Do Have Options

At least now you have a couple places that give “men’s large size cowboy boot” wearers an option. Hey, with options come style, great looks, and of course gratification. With these newly found options, it’s time for the pain of having to pick out just exactly what great looking pair of boots you really want. I bet some of you have walked into a place and never had that problem. Trust me, it’s a good thing.

You can now also put your foot into a boot you like and be comfortable at the same time. With the advantage of having options like I mentioned above, you get the best of both worlds. Comfortable feet mean healthy feet! Remember, don’t settle. I guarantee you can find the pair of boots you want that fit correctly. It’s worth the search

  • Black Cowboy Boots – Mens, Womens, Cheap, Tall Or Square Toe

Black Cowboy Boots – Mens, Womens, Cheap, Tall Or Square Toe

I was going through my closet the other day admiring the several pairs of cowboy boots I have acquired over the last couple years. I got a glimpse of a pair of black dress shoes in the corner and then it dawned on me. Where in the heck are my black cowboy boots?

The truth of the matter is, I don’t have any. I had a pair a couple years back, but the airline had lost them. I got a ticket voucher or something for it, but I never replaced them. The more I thought about it, the more upset I got. I don’t know if upset is the right word, but I did have a sickening feeling in my stomach because those black boots were pretty awesome. They kind of put a “pep in my step” so to speak.

I went and ordered a pair from Pinto Ranch and I will talk about them a little bit. It was kind of a hard decision because they have several men’s black cowboy boots to choose from. Can’t really afford more than one pair at the moment, but here are several that I really liked.

Ladies, if you are looking for women’s black cowboy boots, you have come to the right place. Scroll down and we have included some of our favorites along with links.

This Is The Pair Of Black Cowboy Boots That I Bought

My Black Cowboy Boots - Rios of Mercedes
My Rios of Mercedes Black Cowboy Boots & Alien!

Yeah, I love them! They were $639.99 on sale from $795. If you don’t know anything about cowboy boots, these aren’t a pair of Ariat or Tecova boots. These are the best quality handmade boots by a company that has been making boot for well over 150 years. I don’t buy cheap boots. It’s just that simple. You may say “hey, you could have bought some black cowboy boots at ‘this place’ for $150!” Yes, I could have. Good luck with that. I guarantee you that these boots will last me for decades. There are so many subtle differences between a pair of boots that cost $800 or more and a pair that cost $200, it isn’t even funny. That’s subtle differences. There are also some major differences. You can read about those differences HERE.

RIOS OF MERCEDES MENS BLACK AND NAVY PYTHON BOOTS

Why I love these boots! First thing I want to say is when I say black boots, I’m kind of throwing in Navy blue into that mix. They look black, but have that Navy sheen to them that really catches the eye. The scales on the Python leather is incredible. You look at these boots and you know they aren’t to be taken lightly. I can’t wait to see what my friends say about these babies! The lower vamp is Navy blue python while the shaft is jet black calf skin. You really never see this combination anywhere when it comes to cowboy boots. The stitching on the shaft is pretty awesome also. I actually thought they were the ends of arrows, but it’s called a wheat stitch pattern. I guess you learn something new every day.

There were 3 reviews listed on these boots and they were all 5 stars. I have a feeling I will give them the same once I get them. I have a couple pair of Rios boots (this will be my first black pair) and they really fit well. No worries about the fit, if they don’t fit quite right, you can send them back at no cost and they will ship another pair at no cost. Shipping is FREE at Pinto Ranch.

Why should you get a pair of black cowboy boots from Pinto Ranch? The handmade heart and soul that every Rios of Mercedes boot maker puts into his work every day is what makes the Rios difference!

    Other Men’s Black Cowboy Boots

There are several men’s black boots to choose from and to be honest, I’m trying not to pick any boots that are on sale. I don’t want you to read this article and they no longer exist on the site. You can see all of there boots that are on sale right HERE.

Black Cowboy Boots - BLACK JACK MEN'S BLACK CAIMAN FLANK BOOTS
Black Jack Exclusive Black Caiman Flank Boots

You can see all Black jack black cowboy boots here!

The first boot I want to talk about (not counting the one I purchased) is the Black Jack Exclusive Black Caiman Flank Boots. This is truly an all black boot and the pattern of the caiman crocodile leather is awesome! They have a round cowboy toe and really cool pull straps and stitching on the vamp. The stitching is also all black. The entire boot is black and the pull straps match the rest of the boot. Reading about these boots, they are exclusively made by Black Jack Boots for Pinto Ranch. You won’t find these babies anywhere else. Looking at these boots, I really think you could wear them with jeans, dress pants, just about anything you usually wear cowboy boots with. Girls have that “little black dress” when they talk about their special outfits. I think these black cowboy boots are the men’s equivalent.

Black Cowboy Boots - STALLION MENS BLACK CHERRY FULL QUILL OSTRICH BOOTS
Men’s Black Cherry Full Quill Ostrich Zorro Boot by Stallion

You can see all Stallion cowboy boots here!

The last men’s boot I want to talk about is the Men’s Black Cherry Full Quill Ostrich Zorro Boot by Stallion. I had to throw a shorty into the mix. This is a 7 1/2″ boot made from full quill (those bumps on the boot) ostrich. Ostrich leather boots are very sought after. You can’t help but look at them and when you wear them out, you will know exactly what I mean.

If you aren’t familiar with Stallion boots, they usually have a pretty hefty price tag. Easily can go over $1,000. They do however get to walk down the red carpet quite a bit. Many stars, actors, musicians love to wear them because of their amazing quality and style. Their quality is top-notch. These go for just over a grand at $1,095. Pretty pricey, but they will most likely last you forever and a pair of boots like this never go out of style. Technically these boots aren’t black, but a deep black cherry color that look black at first. They say it’s a few shades darker than Oxblood and I’m assuming that’s pretty dark. Anyway, they are pretty wild and I absolutely love them!

    Women’s Black Cowgirl Boots

I had to get a little help to pick out some black cowgirl boots from Pinto Ranch and Lane Boots. Not saying I don’t have good taste, but there have been many times when I thought something looked good on a girl and I got the “are you crazy” look or vice a versa.

So to help me out, I recruited a female friend to go through and pull out a couple of her favorite boots from the site. I was pleased that it took her a little bit of time. That way I know she just wasn’t picking the first pair she saw to appease me. She also gave me some write-ups on why she liked them, and I incorporated it into this article.

First, Here Are Some Beautiful Ladies Black Boots By Lane

    “Sparks Fly” Black Cowgirl Boots
    “Charmer” Women’s Black Cowboy Boots
    “Saratoga Stud” Black Cowgirl Boots

We really love Lane boots for the simple reason that they have definitely thought out of the box when it comes to women’s cowboy boots. Quality designer boots with a western influence is what they were after and they definitely hit it out of the park! You can check out their gorgeous black boots right here. for that matter, that link will show you all of their amazing boots in a plethora of different colors and styles.

I bet you are sick of buying an expensive pair of boots only to find out they really weren’t put together well or used materials that just weren’t up to standards after you looked at the price tag. One great thing about cowboy boots is that even a decent pair will last a long time. Luckily for you, Lane boots uses top quality materials with some of the best handmade craftsmanship in the business!

Some Amazing Women’s Boots From Pinto Ranch

Black Cowgirl Boots - STALLION WOMENS BLACK BABY BUFFALO BOOTS
Women’s Black Cowboy Boots made from Baby Buffalo by Stallion boots (Almost a square toe)

All women’s cowgirl boots by Stallion here!

The first pair I wanted to talk about are the Women’s Black Cowboy Boots made from Baby Buffalo by Stallion boots. She really liked these boots and why wouldn’t you? Super soft baby buffalo boots are one of the favorites on Pinto Ranch. The leather is super soft and they are super comfortable as well. They are the “classic women’s black cowboy boot” that comes to my mind. Beautiful stitching on the shaft is complimented by the toe medallion and fancy pull straps. They will look great in a dress, jeans, shorts or if you decide to wear boots with leggings.

Black Cowgirl Boots - LUCCHESE WOMENS BLACK FULL-QUILL OSTRICH BOOTS
Women’s Black Full-Quill Ostrich Boots by Lucchese

All women’s cowgirl boots by Lucchese here!

The 2nd pair I wanted to talk about are the Women’s Black Full-Quill Ostrich Boots by Lucchese. This is kind of a mixture of a classic look mixed with the exotic by Lucchese. The vamp is made from one piece full-quill ostrich skin while the shaft is calfskin and super soft. It also has a slightly higher 1 1/2″ heel for comfort and a medium round shape toe by Lucchese. This little black cowboy boot is exquisitely finished with a simple, but very cool cording detail that encompasses most of the shaft while the pull straps contain an ostrich overlay. Definitely a pair of boots that won’t go unnoticed.

Last but not least is a pair of Women’s Black Mayra Boots from Old Gringo. My friend didn’t particularly like these boots and I knew that was going to be the case. Right when I saw them, they caught my eye. Her tastes are a little “vanilla” at times and I knew they wouldn’t be one of her favorite. She did say however “Yeah, I don’t really like those but I feel like some people may.”. Guess what, a lot of people do. There were 10 reviews on Pinto ranch for these tall black cowboy boots and they were all 5 stars. Here are a few of the reviews:

Black Cowgirl Boots - OLD GRINGO WOMENS BLACK MAYRA BOOTS
Women’s Black Mayra Boots from Old Gringo

All women’s cowgirl boots by Old Gringo here!

“My new favorite boots! So comfy and true to size ❤️”

“I love my boots they’re so comfortable they require no breaking in I can walk all day long and then ! Delivery was fast and I even got a discount !Thank you pinto ranch”

“These are beautiful, very comfortable, and great quality! I am very pleased with the purchase and customer service is great!”

You definitely can’t blame me for including these black boots with a modern western look to them. They have an extra tall 18 inch tops, metallic silver stitching that embellished the shaft all the way up. Included is a half zipper inside the ankle and pull straps make for easy on and easy off. Fashion and style combined by Old Gringo to make these magnificent boots! A bonus (in my opinion) is a distressed vintage look on the heel and outsole. Lots of people love these boots and there is a very good chance that you will to!

Black Western Boots – Style, Sophistication & They Look Great!

    Black Cowboy and Cowgirl Boots

What do black cowboy boots remind you of? I’m thinking of a bad guy in some kind of cheesy western or Johnny Cash. Both of those immediately came to mind. I’m gonna go with Johnny Cash. He did wear black cowboy boots and he is one of the coolest and most well-known country stars of all time. You really can’t argue with that.

Something has changed in the last 20 years or so and that’s you don’t have to be “country” to wear cowboy boots. These days western boots and clothing for that matter, have jumped in popularity with just about every genre I can think of. No need in wondering why it took so long, it has finally happened and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere for quite some time.

Tall or short, exotic leathers or smooth leathers, plain boots or embellished? All these are questions you should be asking yourself as you update not only your wardrobe, but your cowboy boots. Black cowboy boots definitely portray a sense of style and sophistication that you just don’t find in other boots or other footwear for that matter. Next time you have to go do a wedding, formal party, etc… try something a little different and “upgrade” to a pair of black cowboy boots. The result will be amazing!

Most of the boots in this video seem to be on the cheaper side. Not bad boots, but they definitely aren’t the same quality as say Lucchese, Stallion and others. You can find most of the boots from this video right here – Hat Country’s Black Cowboy boots. If you are looking for a little higher end boot, check out the link here for some black cowboy boots at Pinto Ranch.  These are super high end and of course cost more, but you get all the name brands under one roof.

Why You Should Be wearing Black Cowboy Boots

For a lot of guys, it’s hard for them to see why they should buy a pair of “fancy” western boots. Not only can the be expensive, it’s just something they aren’t use to seeing unless they grew up around others that wore them. They literally seem like a novelty item or something they see someone wearing in a movie.

But a savvy dresser can think of a pair of black cowboy boots or any pair of cowboy boots for that matter as a secret weapon. At a distance it looks like a quality leather shoe. Up close though, the distinct advantages start to show!

    • Black cowboy boots have a Unique Shape. A lot of people think of a cowboy boot and immediately think of that long this toe that looks really uncomfortable. Although that toe is still quite popular today  with any dress shoe, there are many different toe types in cowboy boots that you really should get to know.
    • All cowboy boots from black to brown suede give a little added height to the wearer. Unless you are playing ball in the NBA, this is definitely a welcome benefit for sure. If you are already tall, don’t worry. There are many options when it comes to heel height.
    • Decoration is something you can find on almost every pair and a black boot is no exception. Whatever your taste, there is a boot out there for you. You can go from one extreme to the other in just one boot. Above and below the cuff of your pants can be 2 completely different types of decorative features from colors, decorative stitching and leather tooling, it just makes cowboy boots a whole lot of fun!
    • My favorite word to describe a pair of black cowboy boots is “Uniqueness“. If you are in Texas or the Southwest, you are in a unique club when it comes to footwear. When you are outside these areas, you will most likely be the only guy in the room wearing a pair. It will definitely give people something to remember you by.
    • Last but not least, wearing a pair of black cowboy boots adds a hint of mystery  or the “bad boy” image to the wearer.  Kind of something an outlaw would wear or the guy that plays by his own rules.

Black Cowboy Boots Should Be In Your Wardrobe

James Dean and Johnny Cash wearing Black Cowboy Boots

I really loved doing this article on black cowboy boots. I can’t believe it took me cleaning out my closet to discover I no longer had a pair. What a crime if you ask me. You can literally wear these boots anywhere, any time. As I said, a pair of black boots really are a style all to themselves. They look spectacular and I think people will look at you in a whole different light.

I really suggest you get a pair if you already don’t have a pair, you are definitely missing out. If you do have a pair, maybe it’s time to treat yourself to another. Some great styles I have shown you here today and don’t forget, there are hundreds more that I couldn’t talk about today on Pinto Ranch’s site. If you have any questions about black cowboy or cowgirl boots or any other boots or boot brands for that matter, let us know below.

As always, I hoped we helped you find your new favorite pair of black cowboy boots today!

    Why Choose Elk Cowboy Boots?

Elk hide is a standout material in the world of cowboy boots, offering distinct advantages over traditional leathers like cowhide or exotic skins. Here’s why elk skin cowboy boots for men are a top pick:

    1. Unmatched Softness and Comfort: Elk hide is naturally softer and more supple than many other leathers, making it ideal for cowboy boots that mold to your feet over time. This softness ensures all-day comfort, whether you’re working on a ranch, hiking, or stepping out for a night on the town.
    2. Durability That Lasts: Despite its softness, elk hide is incredibly tough. It resists abrasions and wears well under tough conditions, making elk cowboy boots perfect for rugged outdoor use or daily wear.
    3. Unique Aesthetic Appeal: Elk hide has a distinctive grain and texture that adds character to cowboy boots. The natural variations in the leather give each pair a one-of-a-kind look, perfect for men who want boots that stand out.
    4. Breathability and Versatility: Elk skin is breathable, keeping your feet comfortable in various climates. Whether you’re in the heat of Texas or cooler northern terrains, elk hide cowboy boots adapt to your needs.

Elk hides have been used for thousands of years in North America and Asia for tee pee coverings, blankets, clothing and footwear. They say most modern day uses of elk hides or leather will be more decorative and used as decorations, but elk skin shoes and boots still remain popular.

Boot Care Tips for Elk Hide Cowboy Boots

Proper care is essential to maintain the beauty and longevity of your elk cowboy boots. Elk hide is unique, requiring specific attention to keep it looking and performing its best. Here are expert tips to ensure your Rios of Mercedes Elk Bottom Roper Boots stay in pristine condition:

    1. Regular Cleaning:
      • Remove Dirt and Dust: After each wear, use a soft brush or damp cloth to remove dirt and dust from the elk hide. Avoid soaking the leather, as excessive moisture can damage it.
      • Condition the Leather: Apply a high-quality leather conditioner every 3-6 months to keep the elk hide supple and prevent cracking. Choose a conditioner specifically designed for soft leathers to maintain the natural texture.
    2. Polishing for Shine:
      • Use a neutral or color-matched boot polish to enhance the sand-colored elk hide’s natural luster. Apply in thin layers, buffing with a soft cloth for a polished finish.
      • Avoid over-polishing, as elk hide’s natural grain is part of its charm.
    3. Waterproofing:
      • While elk hide is naturally water-resistant, applying a waterproofing spray can add an extra layer of protection against rain and spills. Reapply every few months, especially if you wear your boots in wet conditions.
    4. Proper Storage:
      • Store your boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat sources, which can dry out the leather. Use boot trees or stuff the boots with newspaper to maintain their shape.
      • Avoid stacking heavy items on top of your boots to prevent creasing.
    5. Sole Maintenance:
      • The leather sole of the Rios of Mercedes boots is durable but benefits from occasional care. Apply a sole conditioner to keep it flexible and prevent cracking.
      • If the sole wears down, take the boots to a professional cobbler for resoling, thanks to the Goodyear welt construction.
    6. Handle Scuffs and Scratches:
      • Elk hide is resilient, but minor scuffs can occur. Use a leather cleaner and a soft cloth to gently buff out small marks. For deeper scratches, consult a professional to avoid damaging the leather.

Elk Hide From Start To Elk Cowboy Boot

By following these care tips, your elk hide cowboy boots will remain a reliable and stylish companion for years. At We Heart Handmade Boots, we emphasize the importance of caring for handmade footwear to maximize its lifespan and value.

  • The Most Expensive Cowboy Boot Brands And Why They Are Worth It!

The Most Expensive Cowboy Boot Brands And Why They Are Worth It!

Cowboy Boots are like any other product. You always want to find the best deal. The cheaper the better is a motto for a lot of consumers these days. If you’ve browsed around, I’m sure you have seen some cowboy boots from brands like Lucchese, Stallion, Tony Lama, etc… for 8 or 9 hundred dollars and up and thought, is this worth it?

The answer is yes, you just have to know which ones. Below I will give you the information on the most expensive cowboy boot brands and why they are worth it.

Cowboy Boots, Are They Really Expensive?

That’s my question to you. If you look at it in the long run their cheaper than your run-of-the-mill shoe or sneaker and it’s gonna make a huge difference down the line. There’s 3 things you’re gonna wanna think about regarding the cost of a cowboy boot. Where are they made? How are they made? What are they made of? All of those things go into deciding what the cost of a boot actually is.

Are They Expensive? - The Best Cowboy Boots You Can Find

    Where are they made?

Now in North America (Canada, U.S., Mexico), a boot is gonna range from about $175 – $275. I’m talking about your cowhide normal (average) cowboy boot. When you go to Asia and look at the boots their making in India and China, those boots are gonna range from $50 – $150. Europe and the boots made in Spain and other places in Europe, those boots are gonna run you around $300 – $500 for a regular cowhide boot. That gets into how they are made. There are just a lot of things about how a boot is made. So if you make boots in a factory with machines, you can make them quicker and it’s gonna be cheaper. If you have a hybrid way (like a lot of the boots are made in Canada, U.S. and Mexico) you have some portions done by hand, some portions done by machine that will cost between $175 – $275 range. Then you get into that fully handmade or custom boot, which is gonna be really expensive because you have one person or several people doing every single thing by hand. Even the stitching in the shaft. Those boots are gonna run somewhere between $500 – $1,000 plus.

If I do buy expensive cowboy boots like the ones listed below, I buy them from one place. That is Pinto Ranch! The reason I shop there is pretty simple. Their customer service is awesome! Their return policy is amazing and the quality of boots is “Only the best”. Are they expensive? You bet ya, but there is a reason for that. All of their boots are top of the line. Is a Mercedes Benz expensive? You know it, but there is a reason for that. Like a good Mercedes, boots from Pinto are of the highest quality. Names like Lucchese, Stallion, Tony Lama, etc… have been around for decades even a century or more and there is a reason for this! Sure, these are some expensive cowboy boots, but they are worth every penny in my opinion!

    Stallion Cowboy Boots
Click image to check them out

Stallion boots are known from the runways of Paris and Milan to being worn by Hollywood stars. Lol, you know they are gonna be some expensive boots but worth every penny!

    Stallion Handmade Boots
    Lucchese Boots
Click image to check them out

One of my all time favorite brands of cowboy boots (my Italian heritage I guess), Lucchese boots can be pretty expensive, but they also have some cheaper options. Check out Pinto Ranch to find some good ones.

    What they are made of?

If you go past the cowhide or the bull hide leathers and you go into the more exotic skins like a pair of Lucchese ostrich skin boots or caiman, lizard,  and alligator, these boots are gonna be more expensive just because those hides are harder and more expensive to pr occur. These cowboy boots are usually referred to as “exotics”. As you know, the word exotic in any product is kind of a fancy word for “it cost more”. Rightly so though in my opinion. It’s a lot easier and cheaper to get cowhide than it is crocodile or ostrich leather.

Pinto Ranch is your one stop shot for cowboy boots and western wear. Not all their boots are expensive!

    How They are Made?

This really doesn’t need any explanation in my opinion. Handmade cowboy boots have one person either making the entire boot or several people doing different parts of the boot by hand, but it is being handcrafted and they are experts in their field. They are basically putting their reputation into every pair they make and are physically observing the entire process. If a machine screws up and is sewing a bad piece of leather or stitching runs out or a machine gets bumped, etc… who knows how the final product is gonna turn out. I’m gonna choose handmade or handcrafted every time when it comes to boots or most any other product on the market.

Handmade Cowboy Boots, The Quality Is Unmatched

Everything from pasta to cookies, blankets to Panama hats, cowboy boots are no exception. Handmade beats factory / machine made items any day of the week! I really hope this is something you have already experienced and know firsthand. If you haven’t, you are really missing out. I’m not saying $150 – $200 boots aren’t a good pair of boots, I’m just saying a pair of boots that you may have been looking at that cost 3 times as much are most likely a lot better. There can be a couple major differences like the quality of the leather, sole, heel, etc… and there can also be some subtle differences that really make the boot. Some hand stitching is superb and you just might not find in a cheaper lower quality boot. The materials in the heel or the sole are usually of lesser quality and may cause you to repair them say once a year instead of every couple of years like in a higher priced boot. So many little things, a lot of that can add up. Usually if you purchase a boot from say Stallion, Lucchese, or Rios of Mercedes, you are gonna get quality that you just won’t find in say a pair of Tecovas or other lower quality boot.

These Boots Will Last Years Longer Than A Cheaper Pair

Not only will they last longer than a cheaper pair of boots, but think of an expensive pair of boots and then think of a pair of Nike sneakers you purchased recently. How long do these name brand sneakers usually last you? I’m talking about ones that you actually use for what they are intended for (i.e. running, exercise, sports, etc…)? A year if you are lucky. What’s the price tag on a pair of those bad boys. Now compare it with a $850 pair of Lucchese handmade cowboy boots. How long are those gonna last you? Maybe you don’t have any idea. Well guess what, it’s gonna be decades. You can literally have the same pair of boots for 10 or 20 years and that’s with minimal maintenance. You will have to maybe get it re-soled or heeled once in a while, but that cost isn’t bad. When you do this, you will pretty much have the exact same boot that is already form fitted to your foot. No break in period. This is one of the benefits of getting a higher priced boot. With the cheap lower cost boots, you most likely don’t have the top quality leathers (exotic or even cowhide) as you would in Lucchese, Stallion, etc…

When I say “you get what you pay for”, that just isn’t lip service, that’s an actual fact. If you know anyone with a pair of these boots, just ask. I guarantee they will be happy to tell you the same thing. You might be thinking “There’s no way I’m spending that much money on a pair of boots”! Hey, I get it. I thought the same thing when I bought my first pair, but a friend of mine assured me I wouldn’t regret it. He was right on the money so to speak. In the long run, they will pay for themselves.

Why You Shouldn’t Buy The Most Expensive Cowboy Boots Out There

The title of this paragraph might have you scratching your head. Why in the heck would he be saying this when he’s been talking about how buying expensive cowboy boots are worth it and the right thing to do. Well this has to do with your actions, not a fault of the cowboy boots themselves. Couple of reasons why you shouldn’t purchase a pair of boots like the $800 pair of boots I’ve talked about above. Something to think about.

Don’t buy them if the person is still too young. If the person in question is say 13 or 14 years old and their feet are still growing, I would not get them a pair of boots like this. You would think this would be common sense, but it’s not. I’ve heard of parents buying their kids a pair of Lucchese only very upset when they didn’t fit 6 months later. What did you think was going to happen?

Don’t buy an expensive brand of boots if you are rough on your footwear! This may also sound like something obvious, but you would be surprised. You wouldn’t take a Mercedes out 4 wheeling would you? Same thing when it comes to cowboy boots. The expensive brands might hold up better than a cheaper pair, but that doesn’t mean you should treat them rougher. These boots aren’t for the work site. They aren’t for hunting, fishing, or bull riding lol. They are a top quality pair of boots just like any other high end product and need to be treated that way.
These boots are built with the best leathers, heels, soles, stitching by the best boot makers in the world. You need to treat them as such. But hey, it’s up to you. If you don’t mind ruining a $900 pair of handmade boots, I guess that’s your choice. Tell you the truth, if I ruined a pair of boots that cost that much, I think I would cry.

Those Boots Are Made For Walking & Worth Every Penny

I hope you learned something here about expensive cowboy boot brands and why they are worth every penny! Sometimes when you see the price for a product, it’s not hard to dismiss it right away as costing too much and not being worth it. Sometimes it’s hard to see why it’s worth it. What it’s made from? Who made it and why they made it the way they did. All of these things can lead to a higher price tag, but over the long run, you are gonna save money.
To me it’s worth the extra money to have a pair of boots last years longer than a cheaper pair. I love that they form fit to my foot and I don’t have the hassle of breaking another pair in. This is something that is hard to put a price tag on. I really hope that you just don’t take my word for it. If you can, talk to someone that has a pair of boots like this and pick their brain. I can almost guarantee they will have the same feeling as I do. As always, I hope we’ve helped you find your new favorite pair of cowboy boots!

Are Cowboy Boots Snake Proof? – What You Need To Know

Have you ever just sat around and thought to yourself a question that seemed pretty ridiculous, but then the more you thought about it, it actually made sense. That is what happened to me the other day. I was looking at a pair of cowboy boots and I thought to myself, are cowboy boots snake proof? I let out a little chuckle and then I really started to think about it. Well maybe, is that why the shaft of the boot is so tall? That’s a legit question that I had to answer.

What Kind Of Snakes Are We Talking About Here

For the sake of our readers, I’m mainly talking about rattlesnakes in this article. I’m not familiar with other snakes in say places like Australia, but I would have to imagine cowboy boots would provide the same sort of protection that I mention below. The U.S. has over 20 species of venomous snakes, but I would have to imagine rattlesnakes are what you may encounter more frequently and are the more abundant type of venomous snake. Rattlesnakes, Copperhead and cottonmouths are all pit vipers. These are the most frequent and the 3 types you are most likely to be bitten by. Every state in the United States has at least one venomous snake except Alaska.

Venomous snakes really bite humans. When they do, it’s not out of aggression, but out of fear. Snakes really don’t want to waste their venom on you because for them it’s about food. They don’t attack an animal unless they can swallow it or unless they feel threatened. I know that probably doesn’t make you feel better better because nobody is out trying to get bitten. Most bites happen when a person unintentionally steps on one hiking or walking through their back yard. Keeping your eyes open and being aware of your surrounding is about the best thing you can do to avoid being bitten.

Types Of Material That Will Help Protect You

As we stated, wearing cowboy boots definitely offers protection against snake bites and rattlesnakes are definitely what we are talking about here (maybe python boots would work lol) (maybe python boots would work lol). Loose fitting trousers that extend the top of the boot. You really want the jeans to be on the outside of the boot just so long as they go as far down as possible offering maximum protection. You want your trousers to be loose fitting. It’s best to have a cushion of air in between the pants and the boot or even the jeans and your skin. This will help to lessen the chances of the fangs actually puncturing your skin.

The trousers should be made from either denim or some other from of heavy / dense material. I mean who are we kidding, they will most likely be a pair of blue jeans, but something strong / dense is preferred.

Besides these 2 layers of protection, you can also wear with anti-snake gaiters or chaps. Gaiters are a lower leg covering that strap over the lower portion of your leg. They kind of resemble what a baseball catcher would wear, but instead of just the front of your leg, they encircle the entire portion of your leg below the knee. A pair of snake gaiters are definitely “snake proof” and will cost you around $150.

Isn’t That Why Cowboy Boots Have Tall Shafts?

This actually isn’t a bad question if you think about it. When you think of cowboy boots, you think of cowboys out west right smack dab in the middle of rattlesnake country. It makes sense they would design clothing or footwear to help protect them from a potentially deadly bite from a snake. Boom, Case closed!

Well, not so fast. The design of the cowboy boot with a tall shaft actually has nothing to do with protecting from a snake bite. The shaft actually helps keep the boot in place while you are wearing it. Basically it helps to keep them balanced on your foot since they don’t have laces. Why don’t they have laces you ask? Well that is to help the boot slide on and off easily.

After all this though, it’s very easy to conclude that the shaft is definitely beneficial in helping to protect a person from a snake bite. Maybe the shaft wasn’t intended for this purpose, but it has definitely proven to help. I guarantee you at some point there were some cowboys sitting around a campfire at night discussing the activities of the day. One of them said “you know what happened to me today? I was bitten by a rattler right on the top of my boot!”. As his buddies looked in bewilderment, he had a grin on his face because he didn’t even have a scratch on him. This is a perfect example when something is made for one thing, and ends up being useful for another.

Just Another Reason To Wear Cowboy Boots

After writing this, this is just another reason to wear cowboy boots. For that matter, cowboy boots and jeans! I mean I do love cowboy boots and there are several reasons I wear them. In no particular order they are just cool as hell (this really is my main reason). Cowboy boots are stylish. They can go with just about any type of jeans or slacks that I may want or need to wear. The girls love them (wait a minute, this might be my main reason)! Now I have to add to my list “snake bite protection”. Funny how I never thought about wearing cowboy boots when I go in the woods. For some reason hiking boots or work boots are the first thing I think of. I guess my priorities are a little out of whack, but oh well. Doesn’t this just make you want to go out and get a pair of Snake Skin Cowboy Boots!

    Conclusion

Well, I think we learned something new about cowboy boots today. Actually cowboy boots and rattlesnakes. There’s a lot more poisonous snakes in the states than I thought. Though cowboy boots aren’t snake proof, they definitely add a lot of protection and may stop a bit completely. I guess it depends on the strike of the snake, distance of the strike, how big it is, etc… Here is to hoping you never have to find out.

We also learned even though the shaft of a boot wasn’t designed to protect from snake bites, it is definitely a welcome feature of its design.

Wear jeans or other thick dense slacks with your boots that are loose fitting and go over your boots, not tucked in. This is just another added layer of protection.

If you have any experience or stories about a run in with a snake wearing cowboy boots, let us know below in the comment section. Any other question or remarks about cowboy boots is always welcome. I hope we’ve answered any questions or maybe put your mind to rest if cowboy boots are snake proof or not. Keep your eyes open and be safe!
